We got the head movement down, but I think we need to have more pilot's physical reaction while flying for better immersions. Here are some of my easy to implement wish list items:
Pulling too much G? We should hear heavy breathing as the pilot tries pump more oxygen into his brain. Kinda like WoP. Get hit in the leg? We should hear a "OOph" painful grumble. Get hit fatally? Don't black out instantly, fade to black/red with head slumping down. Vision down facing the floor. Bleeding to death? Vision blurs to dark red with retina veins, all sound fades away while your heart beats are heard. Landing hard? A grumble from the pilot, and head shake + motion blur at point of impact. We should be able to see our body in the cockpit. With appropriate blood marks when shot. What do you guys suggest? |

When I first saw the post title I was thinking of the characters themselves. After everything is ironed out, it would be great to have what you mentioned and some sort of reaction to the guy sitting next to you, or from an external view. Just a couple of simple things, like raising arms up in front of head when there is a close call or gun hit. We could think of a whole slew of things, but I think there are some simple ones to implement that could be used in multiple situations. This would all be an optional setting of course.
Maybe this is one of the many hidden features to be unlocked as hardware allows. |

I would definately appreciate the painsounds as for a more serious clue to that you are infact wounded.
I also like what team daidalos did with the latest patches implementing arm/leg hit and weaker control inputs from the struck limbs. I would also like to see different visual effects, maybe something more dynamic than the boring red screen. Say you get hit, you get a more pulsating/blurred vision with some sort of sound to accompany it. You could also have bleeding implemented, creating need to return to base to survive. A wounded pilot would most likely also be a scared and discouraged pilot and could be modeled into AI so that they flee and disobey orders (or point out that they are hit and going RTB). Also the death effect. A headshot should of course be an instant black screen. Perhaps with sound fading out rapidly (so people don't think the game has crashed). If you are hit in the chest or other places and wounded fataly, I agree, the camera should perhaps start wandering back and forth in the cockpit, even down against the floor as you fade out, and fade back in again.. I believe Aces High II had that effect. As you fade out, sound is also blurred out and dampened and control inputs are non-existing. This way, you could be on final approach and fade out, waking up just before slamming into the ground. It would be a nice touch In the future... |

That's what I thought of when I read the title too - but all the ideas have merit
![]() I'd like there to be some pilot animation from outside - gunners following the sights of their weapons, pilots frantically scanning the skies when they lose sight of the enemies, "punching the air" occasionally when they get a kill, that kind of thing. Definitely not something to be at the top of the list, but it'd be nice for the film makers, and for that little bit more immersion. |

Don't forget that this game is released for 12 year old. I wouldn't like my son (or daughter) to have such obvious and graphic visualization and audio of how it is when one dies.
You will object that this effects may be made optional but then I'd reply how can you ensure that this lock is made safe enough so that a smart 12 yr old cannot find out circumventing ... |

I'd reckon that a setting in the conf.ini would be enough, or a passworded "gore" option if it came to that.
I doubt we'd ever get anything that visually traumatic, to be honest - Oleg has always had a very conservative view on gore in IL-2. That said, this is a wargame. To abstract the fact that we're dropping bombs and shooting down flimsy metal/wood frames filled with people from hundreds of feet up in the sky seems very odd to me. If someone is so worried about their children's views, thoughts and emotions while playing games, should they be playing such games in the first place? There are plenty of ways to stop content being viewed if the mechanisms are in place to begin with, and if the child is intelligent enough at 12 to be able to figure out a conf.ini file or crack a password system specifically to get at the gore, then I daresay that kid is intelligent enough to handle a little blood on the screen. |

The current gore in il-2 is turned on by conf.ini
![]() Either way, I don't know if the developers are aiming for an all age rating - ESRB rating is pending and the BBFC is for 15 and older. I think 15 is enough to handle some blood texture. |
