Bench marks and if you can, get a "overclocked" edition for a few extra bucks. Also, if I where you... Wait for the 680 and the 7000 series(oct/nov) battlefield 3 is coming for the PC then and you will love that if you love this game... Also the 6970 is a good price. Look for tesilation performance blah blah, dont just waste £400. 6990 is the same price as 5970 is it not, its only like a few bucks more.. Get that if anything, or a 590.

It's also worth noting the power consumption of the various cards. A 6990 will consume a lot more power than a 6970, perhaps neccessitating an upgrade of PSU as well.
I'm not sure how the Nvidia cards perform in the department. (?)

definately wait for oct/nov new series to come out, its a big leap compared to the 5000 to 6000 which was a step down.

Dude! ...and waste almost year of precious life for waiting? I say, get GFX 580 3 GB VRAM and you are more than good to go for years to come without any SLI/Crossfire hassle.

2GPU cards are not supported by this game yet. Do not buy one. Even when they are supported you need 1.5 to 2GB vram per GPU resulting in 3-4 GB vram in total. 2GB is not enough for a 2GPU card now before upcoming patch at least.
