Default Cpu advice please

Hi guys, I'm on a budget. For SD vid editing and processing, and gaming, il2 cod, Ro2 at some point, r factor2, ROF, which will be better for 2/3 years:

I3 540 3.06ghz

Or

Athlon II X2 250 3.00ghz

I notice the i3 does better on benchmark sites. Any advice before I shell out?

ok well just so you know, don't expect to play il2 COD on either of those cpu's they are below minimum spec.

I would recommend you go out and get a second job and upgrade to an i7 2600k

i5 25000k is a much better chip bang for buck imo.

people overclocking them over 4Ghz on air.

despite having an i7 myself, hypertheading is not really worth it.

i5 2500K was $219 and with a $35 Air Cooler I OC'd it to 4.2 Gig by pressing one button on the MSI P67A-GD65 motherboard.. easiest overclock ever.. only way to make it easier would have been for MSI to actually press the button for me

I used this, its awesome, silent, and I could beat you to death with it You actually attach your motherboard to it, not the other way around.. but..can't hear the fan and its keeping my CPU under load REALLY cool.. like crazy cool..

Best bang for the buck!

Q6600 is a masterpiece. It is one of THE best processors ever released. Intel released it on a 775 set as they didn't have so much power over the market. Now they there planning to release 3 NEW LGA's and the year after they'l probably do 6... Its a joke... 775 lasted from Pentium 4 too the Q series. 1156 hasn't even lasted a year.
