Default Day 2 review 1

before i start let me put up my system spec:
ASROCK 870 extreme 3
AMD Phenom X3 3.2ghz
4gb kingston 1066
ATI 5750 1GB
CORSAIR 750 WATT PSU
WIN7 UL 64BIT (stripped down, set to performance looks like win98 )
windows index is 5.9 HD CPU 6.9 and the rest are 7.2-7.4
all tests were done at 1360x768x32. AA off
I got the Russian version of the game yesterday and have been doing some testing what i have discovered is that with default setting's and the epi filter disabled
/Program Files (x86)/Steam/steamapps/common/il-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover
it is playable with a limited number of planes (no more than 12) there are some dips in FPS but on the whole it is good even on the ground i have a decent FPS

I did a 6 vs 6 dogfight at medium settings and it was fluid for the most part

now where it taxes my system is over a city

and graphically intense situations

After this i went and set all settings to as low as they will go in the game and also went to my ATI control center and set everything to performance where as it was quality before and it made the game very fluid and smooth...but at a price...

the same 6vs6 dogfight at low settings was VERY smooth

I tried a succession of the default missions and that any mission with a JU88 almost froze my computer even at low settings, plus when you are approaching 30 aircraft in a mission the FPS will drop to below 30 and dip into the teens when action is heavy (even at low settings).

the most interesting thing i found was when i was chasing down some DO17,s and the parts started flying off them from my fire the game would lag real bad till the parts passed me.

All in all i am impressed and hopeful that after the teething problems are over we will have a great sim

Thanks for the information. Could try forcing LandGeom=0 in the config.ini and see what happens to frame rate over large cities. It should go up.

the sound of the DB601 ripping past me the attention to detail on the ground...this is a flight sim ..not a tour bus but you really feel like you over 1940's england and that was on medium settings

The cockpits are AWESOME!!! THE SHADOWS THAT GO THROUGH THE COCKPIT FROM THE SUN WHEN YOUR TURN AWAY JUST ADD TO THE IMMERSION
caps..sorry
I landed in a field and there was high grass waiving in the wind

there are so many things that by them selfs are no big deal but when u add them together it just enriches the whole experience....such as the creaking in the cocpit from stressing the frame and the noise from the landing gear when you are landing.

there just seems tobe so much more depth to this incarnation...like when we went from RB3D to IL2

S!

I think I'll be fine with these limitations. When playing 1946 99% of the time I'm in QMB 1 vs 2 for a quick fix of flying a shooting. I haven't played MP in ages as I'm modded up and the good mod servers are just too far away from Australia. The nearer servers are empty or on easy settings e.g. cockpit off. Plus I was on a laptop so I was used to limitations. My new rig ,although bloody good, will just be limited when playing COD.

So only being able to have a few planes in the air won't kill it for me. I'm quite happy to learn to fly the plane for the next few months until patches make things more interesting.
