Default Saitek SST Programming Software?

Suspected for a while that the SST software was causing the Blue Screen of death on my PC. Not so much with IL1946 but frequent blue screen crashes in WOP. However, I remapped one of the top hat switches as a shift Key for IL1946 and the instant I hit the key - Blue screen of death ('Bad_Pool_Call' but sometimes 'Driver _IRQL_Not Less Or Equal'! Really hacked off so I checked on the internet and found a lot of threads concerning SST, conflicts with TrackIR and causing PC instability. Anyway, I have removed the SST software and mapped the stick directly to the functions I need with no intermediate software and everything now seems fine.

Has anyone else experienced problems with this software? BTW, this was following a complete re-install of the OS (WIN XP 32 bit SP3) and Nvidea drivers, etc, as I thought it may have been a duff registry or driver issue. I only have WOP and IL1946 installed and it was crashing with out TrackIR enabled.

I'm using the latest version of SST inIL2 with no problem, or at least not much. But I can tell you from 10 plus years experience that Saitek drivers by and large suck, and if I didn't like their controllers so much I'd not put up with it. It's like anything else, a choice you make. Do you want that little red sports car? You can't pack up the family for vacation with it (or more than a change of underwear, for that matter). Same with the Sticks.

Since the Saitek X45 came on the market, i'm using Saitek for Il2 (currently X52 Pro with MDS programmed) in combination with Track ir3. Others from my group use the Saitek Cyborg. As far as I know the SST only caused real problems in a former release. Used both mapping directly in Il2 and from SST, don't forget to clear the Il2 mapping for the latter. Nuke'n the USB ports could solve the issues in some cases. Be sure to use the latest drivers.

I will try several hours with no SST on both WOP and IL1946 and, if no problems, I will then install the latest SST and Drivers for my Cyborg. I am using the SST version shipped with the stick and it is the earlier version. Using any key as SHIFT key (other than the designated one on the Cyborg X) causes the PC to crash the instant I press it so it is definitely the SST software.

I experienced lockups with the SST - I think it was caused by mouse functions on the X52.
Deleted all of them; no more lockups.

Realised I had 'Xpadder' and this works a treat for flight sticks as well as game controllers. Absolutely no issues with Xpadder and does everything that S.S.T does - will stick with it and not bother installing the latest S.S.T. software. Not sure wether Xpadder has 'shift key' support but I can live without that.
18 assignable switches is more than enough for me....and my aging memory !

I remember having the (X45 or similar model at the time that was for the actual game-controler/midi port, not USB) back in the late 90s as a kid, the SST software was so buggy causing random lockups and BSODs that we ended up just returning the joystick back to the store.
Now I currently own an X45, Command Unit, Gamer's Keyboard, Cyborg V.7 Keyboard, and RAT7 mouse. And for the most of it I cannot complain about them, some of this stuff is coming to be arround 7-8 years old now and still functions fine through all the abuse and usage. And for the most of my gaming needs the SST software dose the job just fine. Until I started trying some fancy macros with my Cyborg V7 keybaord in dosBox, like yourself I assigned some of the C-Keys (programmable buttons) as a "Shift Key", and it is instant BSOD as soon as I press one of the keys I assigned to be a shift key.
It is interesting to see that somone else is having a similar issue with another Saitek product. It Appears to be a nasty bug in it that causes locking and BSODs when you try to program your own shift keys.

Sadly this is about as much help as I can provide since I contacted Saitek's support by email last spring about this and have not heard anything back on it. But what I find even more disturbing about it all is that I remember signing up to Saitek's offical forums and I thought I asked about this issue last summer. But when I tried to log back onto the forums it turns out they had deleted my account and banned my email adress :/
I'll have to try giving thier tech support a call sometime, at minimal to get a message through to the dev team to try and fix this issue (or even become aware of it if they are not).
It is sad to see these great products being held back by weak software.

There's no correlation between stick response and SST.
Try joycontrol.
