Default Any solution to the Direct 3D subsystem error

I've read quite a lot about this error:

"C:\work\skyfallen\tbm\BMRender\rmode.cpp(5509 ): DirectX call failed: -1, -1, E_FAIL (An undetermined error occurred inside the Direct3D subsystem"

and how the recommended suggestions do not really work. I tried turning off AA and VSync, for example, which probably allowed me to play an extra 10 minutes before crashing again with the same message.

Is there no official response to this issue from the developers?

I know it's been a while since you posted this but I had the same problem with my PC, but have fixed it.

If you can't get the game to start at all, change your desktop resolution to 1024x768 and try to start the game again. It should start up (mine did) and then you can increase the resolution using the options menu in-game.

My resolution was originally 1920x1080. Whilst this option is available from the in-game menu, the game will produce the DX-error if I try to run it on that setting. I am able to run it on lower wide-screen resolutions though.

Cheers
