Vanishing Pilot Career?

Hey guys, I have a slight problem with Pilot Career mode- all of my current games have "vanished". The problem started when I tried to move a folder (specifically, a Soviet career folder I'd recently finished, /Missions/Campaign/RU/dgen_f_stalingradsakyovich0) over to my external harddrive for archiving purposes. BIG MISTAKE. Now whenever I access Pilot Career mode under that profile, it takes me straight to the New Career menu, instead of letting me load my old careers (there were three others saved).

I moved the offending folder back to it's original place, with no luck. I tried making a new career, and now only this newest career shows up on the Load Career menu. HOWEVER, all of my other career folders are still intact and in place, and if I try to "restart" a career I'd played before (for instance, the Stalingrad Fighter career that started this nonsense) I get a message warning me that the career in question is already in progress.

Also, I noticed that the campaigns.cfg file located in my pilot's User folder changed dramatically after I moved that one folder. It's all gibberish, but I'm wondering if something in that file is preventing the game from recognizing my old saves?

Obviously these careers are still saved, but the game won't let me load them anymore. Any advice on how to fix this? My computer is running Vista and my copy of the game is 1946 patched to version 4.09, with no mods, in case that matters. Thanks!

What is the name of your pilot? if that changes, the whole lot changes/disappears.

its a game bug, you cant delete any folder in use inside missions/campaigns/country because you will loose ALL you campaigns, the propher way is to remove it first ingame from the campaigns list (btw changes in dgen folder will probably have the same effect!)

D'OH! Thanks, I was afraid of that.

By "backup", what do you mean? I still have the folder I moved, but moving it back doesn't fix the problem. Is it the campaigns.cfg? Also, does anyone know if there's a campaign editor available, so I can rebuild the campaigns I lost manually?

Oh well, that teaches me to meddle in folders I don't fully understand, huh? Thanks for your help.
