Also stuck on 2 single missions...

Hi,

I'm stuck on the mission 'defend a friendly' in the battle of britain. I can't seem to keep the friendly alive. Even when I shoot down all the enemies, the friendly still crashes eventually on his own. What am I missing here?

Second mission: 'Downtown Berlin' in the battle of Berlin. Well uh, yeah the fighters shoot down all my bombers within the first 2 minutes or something. Any tips here? I really don't know how to get trough this one.

generally wiith the 'defend' missions -unless the enemy are always coming from the same direction, in which case, place youreslf at a reasonable intercept point, never stray too far away from your objective and target the enemy that are targetting it... Kil, clip or chase them but don't follow them and end up too far away when new bogeys suddenly appear. Usually, the higher the difficulty level the fewer the enemy drones ....

Can't remember the other one, been a while since I completed that one but IIRC I flew the IL2 at very low altitude between target areas and enemy gave up ...on me at least.....

Killing the enemy fighters isn't a problem in the first mission. I can shoot them all down and keep the friendly that I've got to protect alive. But after I shot them all down, the mission doesn't end. The friendly just keeps on flying and eventually crashes (out of fuel?). What am I supposed to do here?

Second mission: 2 waves of fighters come from two different sides at once. I can handle one but then the other one just shoots down all the bombers I've got to protect. And my wingmen aren't that much of a help either. But I guess I'll have to keep trying on this one. It's especially with the first mission that I don't know what to do.

Try these missions in sim mode or at least realistic. Realistic helps your ability to spot how far away a bogey is and where it's headed, without that confusing red dot obscuring it. Sim helps break the habit of always attacking from the 6, instead of setting up a higher-profile mid-quarter shot.

I've got all 16 bombers back in Downtown Berlin exactly twice. It's very difficult. The mission is more a test of escort tactics than killing the enemy. What you need to do is climb up nice and high above your package. It's easy since your la7 is much faster. The first bogeys will attack from the front and usually climb then pass through the formation at high speed. Just look for other la7's chasing something, then dive to intercept it. The Jerries are smaller and they will stay fast, so don't turn too hard, make a nice gradual turn and you should be able to nail one before it gets a bomber.

The other one might kill a bomber anyway, it's a matter of luck. If not, locate it and attack, but don't follow it away from the formation. If it gets separated from the bombers, let your wingmen harass it, and attack it only if it comes back. Two more fighters attack before the target is reached.

Staying with the formation is the most important part of this mission. Once your bombers turn around, if you've killed or chased off the first 4 fighters, it's nearly home free. Just keep flying around above the formation. When the second wave passes, if there's any bogeys attacking it, ignore them. Stay above the first wave and you shouldn't have to chase off more than 1 or 2 bogeys on the return trip.

update: I finished the first mission. Don't really know what I did different though

kozzm0, thx for the hints. I guess I could try them on realistic or sim, it's just too bad it's the only mission I couldn't complete in arcade

a lot of the arcade missions are actually harder, but if you can finish them all on sim, you get the arcade and realistic trophies retroactively.

I tried it on realistic yesterday. Wasn't much better I guess I need more experience on realistic (and sim ofcourse) first

other update: I finished the last single mission too! On sim! Haha didn't fire one bullet. Bit too easy this way? Anyway, still happy to have completed all the single missions
