Talking crow doesn't work!

This item was included in the gift package.
I don't know if it's bugged but it just won't transcribe me my wanderer scroll, it asks for 100 or so thorn spuds which are more than required in my inventory! But it somehow refuses to see them and just gives me a choice of 'maybe next time'.
