Hi all,
I thought I'd share with you my original September 1940 photograph. Situated in the Champagne region of France, it shows maintenance work on two Me 109Es. The aircraft in the background has a light coloured nose paint finish that extends right up to the cockpit frame. My information is, that this finish is unusual and would likely be white in colour and not yellow. I understand that RAF crash analysis of Me 109s of the period revealed that the nose sections were painted white rather than yellow. Possibly to avoid 'friendly fire' incidents? Best Regards, MB_Avro. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

This is a million dollar photograph. I have never seen the white ID color so far back on the nose. I noticed Huzzar intends to release a 1:48 109E decal of an aircraft of with a similar white nose.

There were individual units (i.e. parts of I./JG 52) which did use white instead of yellow, but most units followed the orders from JaFü 2 and 3 to the letter and applied the ID markings in yellow.

Excellent photograph though; can I ask how it came to be in your possession, and if you know anything else about it?
