Sim player only poll, Do you use zoom ?

Just curious, Some good people on here say they don't hardly ever use Zoom in sim mode.

So I figured out of curiosity I'd take a poll. I personally just can't imagine playing sim mode and not having zoom. I use it non stop. I use it to search the horizon, and I use it when a enemy goes down real low buzzing the ground. I use it to tell what plane they are flying from long range so I know what tactics to use against them.

I also would like to know if you feel that not having it gives you a negative advantage when playing against a player who would have it ?

For me it has always been a important part of every sim I have ever played. Still, I'm willing to respect opinions and I would love for you all to weigh in on the matter.

I got used to not using before the patch, as I started using the Aviator Wireless pad layout, but since the patch I've been using layout 4, and have found it pretty useful for ID'ing targets at range, and for picking out aircraft from above.

I don't think it would be a huge disadvantage if you did not have it, as the patch has also increased the visibility of the aircraft at distance. Still, it is a real pain that they seem to have overlooked it for custom layout users.

I use it all the time. Maybe if I had a bigger tv (i play on a 19"WS) I might use it less but spotting enemies is hard enough, identification is next to impossible without zooming. Even when im dead on a guys 6 i'll still zoom on him to fire

See, I have no clue what planes looks like what (I can sort of recognise a 109's wings now, but I still can't tell the difference between a Hurricane and a Spitfire). And even if I could, I wouldn't know how to approach them to give myself the best advantage.

I consider myself at a disadvantage for that lack of knowledge. So maybe that's why I couldn't care less about zoom

I use it if it's appropriate to help locate or identify a distant target. Useful to have the function in some situations or game modes.

I pretty much always used aviator layout so never really had the chance of using it. Would def help for id'ing planes but i think i'm not doin too bad without it. I should prob try that custom 4 layout thing, but I really like the aviator layout so why change?
imo it would b perfect if it was possible to map the zoom on the R3 stick on aviator layout instead of that "change camera view" which could simply b in the options in the pause menu. I've tried evrything and cant customize the layout this way.

I never use zoom. Always throws my distance judging off. XD
