Odd graphical errors

I have il2 on steam, for a long time now, in the past I had no problems but I recently reinstalled and I am getting odd graphical errors. I have been playing the rebel campaign and it was fine for the first 5 missions, but on the 6th mission the graphics screw up, textures disappear and turn odd colors, and the map is filled with pictures of the bombing icon and recon icons. Now every mission and campaign is like this, has this ever happened to anyone else?

Also, my version is 4.08, but i see there is 4.09 available, does steam not update to the latest version?
