Default Are there any good WWI flight sims?

Seems that WWI is badly underrepresented in the world of video games, yet saw some of the most intense and varied combat of any conflict. Does anyone know of any decent WWI based games, particularly flight sims?

There is a conversion for some of the MS CFS series called Over Flanders Fields, I believe. I've heard good things about it.

I think there is something called Rise of Flight being worked on as well. I think this is an independent game (not a conversion/mod). Not sure how far along it is either.

Then there is the Thirdwire game First Eagles. I have been interested in that one, but haven't ponied up the cash for it. But, I have a couple other Thirdwire games in the Strike Fighters/Wings Over ____ series, with '60s and '70s jets which I enjoy. All are easily moddable.

These are all for PC, I don't know of anything for consoles that is WWI specific.

Rise of Flight is out for PC, and they've got a three day demo, that I tried out not long ago. Overall, the flight model is good, but it doesn't seem to have quick action missions, or a very good campaign, which is a fairly big let-down for me.

You also have to buy the individual planes you want to fly, beyond the Spad 13 and the Fokker DVII that are included out of the box, but that don't really bother me if the planes are well made. Overall it is a wait-and-see for me, but your milage may vary.

Sorry, but not much for the cosoles out there. There was one for the original xbox that was horrid, don't remember the name, and Red Baron Arcade from the Playstation store, and that's it. Red Baron is ok, but like its name says, Arcade.

Warbirds III has the option to play WWI battles. It's free if you only play offline.

I've done some looking into that Rise of Flight, but besides the flight mechanics. It's not that spectacular. Maybe if they did it like the Red Baron (GREAT WW1 flight sim from the 90s) and just had the planes. I don't like having to buy the planes separate from the original game.

Check out Red Baron II by Dynamix, released in 1998 I think, but you HAVE to get its mods, the original was crap but its fans were so devoted they basically redid the game many times over and created one of the best sims ever. The latest vers are basically 2003 level graphics but the gameplay is supposed to be awesome. I never played it, just read about it. Unfortunately I have to have a Mac for my work so PC games are out.

Not a designer, I made the highly *lucrative* decision in art school to be a fine arts major instead of design, so I do print production.
