I understand that a blackout occurs during high Gs and the blood flow in the body is affected but what the heck is a redout?

To the best of my knowledge, a Blackout occurs when the bloodflow is restricted to your head during a positive G maneuver and a Redout occurs when the blood is forced into your head during a negative G maneuver visually flooding the capillaries in your eyes...

Correct. Redouts can be potentially fatal as well, sometimes causing hemmorages.

Also. Anton, you're awesome! Thank you!

As stated before a redout is from a negative G and also from flying upside down. One of the main tactics of attacking bombers brought this on. The Ace pilots learned that when they would come at a bomber they needed the quickest escape possible, so they would roll the plane over and fire upside down while coming at the bomber. This way, as soon as they saw the 50 cal lead flying at them they could make a straight dive without having to roll the plane over first. Were lucky that the bombers in Il2 don't fly as close of a formation as the really wise bomber pilots did. It was harder to take a smart group of pilots down in real life. , then it is in IL2. I know I had a uncle that flew 29 missions back to back because his first child was on the way. He flew before they had any escort protection. The Germans would only pick on the loose formations or a wounded bomber that was lagging behind. (EXAMPLE)When 3 B17's were in a tight formation the combined fire power would ripp enemy fighters out of the sky.

Was 29 a quota that bomber pilots had to achieve?
