I have been wandering these boards for a while now. I plan on getting it for the PS3.

I played a little IL 2 on the PC but I have to admit, found the realistic mode frustrating at times and really didn't get into it as much as I'd like due to time restraints. I have moved to console gaming for the past 3 years because it allows me to focus on gaming rather than upgrading PC hardware all the time.

This game looks like it might be right up my alley and I am REALLY excited for this to come out. I have played Blazing and my stomach turns after 3min of fly time! I am 32yrs old but feel like a kid again

One question I have for the people that have the Xbox demo and a stick...

How do you find the "hat switch" look around to work? For some reason I am curious on how easy and fluid this will work. And what button do you push to zoom in? I think that if this feature doesn't work easily that it will cause a lot of headache. In a dogfight being able to keep an eye on your enemy in a tight turn is essential.

I plan on getting the Thrustmaster HOTAS for the PS3 and I know that it will be different than the current Xbox sticks.

Thank you for reading and I plan on seeing a lot of you in the sky come September! Especially getting shot down by a lot of you more experienced simmers!

Welcome mate, I'm going to try and answer a few of your questions here.

To look around you just click in the right stick (R3 button) and while holding it in you move the stick around. It's not the most graceful way of doing it and hopefully it will turn into a toggle switch but for now it gets the job done of finding and moving towards where you remember him heading. The zoom on Sim Mode is actually really nicely implemented. If you just use the Left Trigger it zooms in. Given the fact that the look isn't so perfect it does lead to some headaches in terms of positioning you to your enemy and also FINDING him in the first place. But that is where the celebrated gamer ingenuity comes in to place. I like to use the virtual cockpit which is 1st person but with no actual cockpit (much more visibility) and then when I get into position I use the actual cockpit to get the pest feel for the plane.

I don't actually know anything about sticks (ignore the innuendo ) but hopefully someone here will answer that one.e
