Default are the AI more "lethal" in single missions?

I have yet to actually been SHOT DOWN in this game by fighter aircraft.

even on simulation , 99 percent of the time when i die its me hitting the ground or other planes

I'm assuming since they are marketing mainly to people that are not sim players the answer is probably no (at least not for sim flyers). There may be some later missions with "aces" but I doubt they will make it that hard for marketing purposes. I am just using this demo to practice for multiplayer anyway, might be months before I even fly the campaign once the game ships

I've been shot down once. Most of the time they are on my tail firing away and I've had my plane all shot to hell but only got taken out the one time. I did have my engine go out in the Bulge mission. I think it was from the flack but not sure.

Actually...

On the "The Red Skies of Dover" mission, while I was just messing around, moziing along, barrel rolling, flipping, doing everything BUT the actual mission, not shooting at a single plane... Suddenly a prompt popped up saying mission clear, hit back to continue...

I am definitely hoping for a touch more challenge than that.

Yeah I hear ya, I think if you don't get to work right away your wigman will finish the job for ya. Well at least they aren't morons like in the ace combat series.

I was worried about this myself.

I believe it's only because they had only put the easiest missions in the demo and that is typically what you find in most demos.

I know there are different types of modes(arcade, real, sim) we can play from, but is there going to be more campaign options besides Difficulty and Lives?

I will more likely be caught shooting down noobs in multiplayer then playing the missions anyway. I'm getting a Dazzle DVD recorder for my Xbox so I plan on making short movies of IL2 soon on YouTube.
