Exclamation Mirabella Crash - - no error message; Windows XP SP2

I have the DVD v1.6b7 (build 32746) game crashes to desktop with no error message from game in Administrator Event Log or either the save file folder or game folder.

I have killed Lucky James and defeated the Kraken. I return to Mirabella and ask her to be my wife. I tell her that both of the underlined are dead. The game crashes to my desktop without any error message. I have tried it with several earlier save games and got the same results.

This is my first and only game problem that I have had. My system is up to date and so are all my drivers. I am running Windows XP SP2 with the following: Intell 3.8GHz CPU: 3GB Ram; NVIDIA 8800 GTS, 640MB DDR3 PCI GPU; and Creative Sound Blaster Fatal1ty Professional Xtreme Gamer sound card.

I have been working on and with computers since 1967 and bought my first PC an Apple IIe in 1984.

Not that I really want a wife but they are helpfull in the game.

I would appreciate your help with this problem.

Default possible solution to the d3d problem for a few users

I was getting d3d errors trying to launch the game like several other people who have posted. For me the game did not start at all, I got the error after the screen turned black a moment - no amount of installing drivers, direct3d or other software worked.

The solution was simple - for some reason the game did not like my default desktop resolution of 1280x768 widescreen. I switched to 1024x768 and launched the game, once it had written its ini files using this resolution and I had exited I could reset my desktop to 1280x768 and run the game with no further issues.

This is probably only the solution in a very limited number of cases but I hope it helps some other users out there

Default overheating

The game runs at a smooth 30-35fps on max settings (X2 64 4000+, 2GB RAM, 8600GT), but as soon as i start playing, my GPU temp steadily starts going up to 80-85C, according to Speedfan, and it sets off the overheat alarm. At that point i can alt-tab and that does return the temp to it's normal values, but i don't think it will be good for my system if i go on with this procedure for 1-2 hours. I tried playing with the lowest settings and it's the same.

I will get a compressed air can, since i haven't cleaned up the dust lately, but i don't think this is the major reason since i play a lot more graphically demanding games without such problems.

Any solutions or other people experiencing such a problem?

This issue more often appeared on the notebooks. What version are you playing?

cant play the game, it constantly end process and jump back to windows desktop, system says it's a DEP related problem, i disabled DEP setting, the game wont suddenly over but it freezes, the system will be dead and i'll have to reboot windows.

windows vista 32 bit
8600 gts, driver 182(185 has problems with other games so i have to use 182)
4gb ram

Update:
the funniest part is, after first time i installed the game, it doesnt even play, it keep saying cant find the game disc when the disc is already in the dvd driver, i actually had to find a no-cd fix to play a FULL RETAIL VERSION game......
anyway, i tried enable/disable the DEP, run as admin, turn off UAC, all the basic routine you do, nothing worked, i actually download a cracked version on internet, that has the same problem, too. So its gotta be the game programming problem.

wow, a week has passed and no one has answered me......
keep up the good work, 1C, btw you wonder why you cant compete with big publishing names like EA or T2? Try fire someone at your Q&A department, they are useless.

*cough* I would say that large companies is just as bad, just see a game like Mass Effect, I have no idea if they finally got a patch out or what, but I have dropped the game completely because I didn't want to wait for the patch anymore.
Remember, it's not just one problem they trying to fix, it might be several. Especially the version problem, I can imagine that they need to built in something that can automatically fix the savegames that has been created from other versions.

Large companies arent THAT good, sure..... But at least they can hire enough people to treat their costumers properly.
When Red Alert 3 was out it had that black screen bug, EA released the hot fix for Red Alert 3 in 6 hours
When i had a problem with Total War, SEGA responed me within 24 hours
When my Zoo Tycoon 2 had a bad disc, Microsoft send me a new one for free, it took only a week include the shipping.
Even with Atari, a company i dont like much, when i had the crash problem of The Witcher, someone always online to answer questions, well they didnt solve the problem(i had to exit and rerun the game every 50 minutes), but i saw the effort.
With 1C, i laugh at them, actually i was gona buy the new shooter Necrovision, but i saw the publisher's name, yeah forget about that!
