1. Did Hero and Ace die?
2. What happened between Heretic and the old team?

Nobody died. The team splitted apart to hide from dangers they had after such story and what they have been done.

Huh, I thought something tense happened between Heretic and the team in Empire's Legacy since in Star Wolves 3 he acts against their interests.

He have a somekind of "hard temper", yes. But they all have somekind of that.
And in SW3CW there is a different Hero than was in SW1Legacy.
So in SW3CW you can play on one side with Herertic.
