How to land if you can't see the runway?
Hello
Just in need of a little advice, again... I'm currently doing a campaign called 633 Squadron, sorry I can't recall who made it, or where I found it. The 2nd mission sees me take off just after 05:00 and then land again not long after that having bombed a target. Problem is, that the airfield, which is on an island in the English Channel (on what I think is a modified Normandy map), when I return is shrouded in fog and I can't even see the island nor the runway until I'm very close, too close to line myself up for landing. I've tried using the comms to ask for runway lights but they don't appear to work, but that's not really surprising as I didn't expect the runway to have lights. I've thought about increasing the time of day when the mission starts or changing the weather, because I have missionpro installed so I can do that, but I think that would be cheating if the person who made the campaign intended a daybreak raid. So, without being able to see the runway how do I line myself up on it? TIA. |

Ah, so not just me then.
I did find out earlier today, via google, that the Mosquito has an early version of ILS with a supposedly working dial in the cockpit (it was added in either 4.10 or 4.11), but I've never seen it do anything. Presumably the beacons have to be scripted into the missions? |

You can use the Lorenz Beacon(Long runway or regular), or the AN/MRN-1. I'm not familiar with the gauge in the Mosquito, but most blind landing gauges show signal strength(I.E. proximity to the beacon), not glideslope information(With the exception of a B25 coupled with the AN/MRN-1). To help keep yourself aligned with the runway, it helps to know its heading(easily found by spawning on the runway with a takeoff waypoint, add 180 for landing in the other direction). You can rotate your compass(provided the aircraft supports this) with the appropriate keys, so you can keep it pointing forward when aligned. |

The mission has Good weather with 05:15 start time
There will be early morning fog but its easy enough to see the runway, perhaps your video settings need a tweak. |

Hmm, dunno about that. I've got everything on perfect (or as perfect as you can get with an ATI card). I can see the runway when I'm on it. But come out about as long as you would normally be to line up and I can barely see the island in that 633 Squadron mission.
Anyway, doesn't really matter now as I "cheated" and set the time to a bit later (09:00). Didn't help though, I ended up getting shot (think it was AA or a BF109) and limped back home with a fuel leak only to have my right engine catch light just as I was getting close to the island. Ended up having to bail out!! Doh! Luckily the game let me select "apply" to continue. I was getting the feeling that I was doomed to repeat that mission ad infinitum.
