Again bshock, it looks like it is your graphics card not being good enough, just look at all the other cases, sure they can be in the starting place, but can't go beyond the portal.

That is not the issue. My card supports Shader 2.0 and DX9. The game boots up fine and I have no graphical issues or slowdown. I just crash when going through the portal.

It is something else.

I would just like to point out that there are no minimum requirements listed, just recommended ones. I really don't think this is that kind of problem- if a 6800 gt (which can run bioshock/HL2 at decent speeds) is having problems, then this specific problem is not related to performance.

I just got the DD of off GG but it says that I need the :
The following prerequisites are required:


* .NET Framework 2.0 (x86)

I went to the link ( provided from GG ) and I downloaded it - dotnetfx BUT
when I try to run that it gives me an error saying it can't install that because of previous installations ??
I am running the latest mozilla, so what do I do ?

What OS? You can try going here and download and install .net 3.5. Hopefully that will fix up whatever is wrong with your .net 2.0.

I have XP and running mozilla firefox. I really dont know what to do here.

.net has nothing to do with IE or firefox. I am not sure what you are talking about. Try the link I gave and install that, then see if you can install/run the downloader.

Basically crashes at the very start. I can enter the first portal but game crashes when I try to engage the dragon. If I choose not to take the test the game crashes when I try to leave the room. There's no error message. Anyone know where error/crash log is stored?

Windows Xp, RAM 3G, Nvidia 8800 Gt 512mb (driver 175.19).
I'll try beta driver after i get back from work but really have no idea what the problem is.

Seems like the beta driver (177.92) for my video card solved all my problems.
