Ok. I need to find how to do an in-game screenshot on a Mac. I think I saw this buried in a Steam support article recently. I just did all my Keeper upgrade battles for a while, but I'll get back to this.

As for the Slingers, I should have been more clear: they were not controlled by me in the slightest, nor do I believe the Gremlin towers attacked them. They were nearby, backed away, and single-targeted the towers. Only for a single round though. And in only 2 battles (I've done others; though they probably didn't have Slingers in them).
