Hi,
from my experience they mostly spawn in acceptable numbers (>20) on Fastland (the fourth island), but not always. As a lot of things in KB, this is random. If you are desperate, use the KBscanner to check your starting save game(it's a little bit complicated, but there is a thread regarding the scanner...)
