Is it my imagination but was there every a Spitfire XIV in the works for 1946 some years ago? I seem to remember a WIP shot in the IC forums.
I'm more than likely wrong but can anyone confirm this? Thanks. |

Been around for a while as a mod, not sure about official developments.

I think I can count 4-5 iterations of Spitfire XIV of which only the MOD version was ever finished... but I don't think they have yet come forward to get it implemented as a stock aircraft. I'd love it if they or someone else did.

It's kind of interesting isn't it. The Spit 14 is quite probably the most formidable single engine prop fighter to ever see combat and yet for some strange reason it hasn't made it into the game. Wonder why ......

It's not in the game like many other types weren't in the game. The person or people working on it never finished the project. This happened many times. And I don't blame anyone either... it's a long and difficult process for one person to do and it's often a multi-year effort if time is short and you have to keep stopping and starting. We did get certain aircraft finished... like the earlier Spitfires, the P-38, P-47, etc. because a third party modeller made it happen. I'm not sure what state the MOD version of the Spit XIV is in but if it wouldn't take too much to bring to finished standards for a TD release... it'd be fantastic. I don't think a huge amount of work would need to be done but I'm not sure. I'm hoping for both razorback and bubble canopy versions too. That'd be nice ![]()

They are great, especially the bubble top just recently released.
I know that many of the modders are simply not willing to cut the beauty of their creations to meet TD's very old standards. Edit: Add to that, many modders simply see no need/want to work with them. EDIT 2: Some eye candy, courtesy of GJE52 ![]()

Seems more aren't than are.
I see a lot of them with an attitude along the lines of "TD, who cares?" I made the comment over at SAS that I would love to see some love for the 109 in an official patch (since it seems to have gotten NONE since the early 2000's) and the overwhelming response was "Why does it matter? We have it already so who cares if its made official or not?" I only really care from the game efficiency stand point. The fewer mods I have to load to make the game visually acceptable the better. Oh well. For the time being its there free for everyone to use! Dig in!

Generally speaking, if you want something to be added to the game you have these options. 1. Make it yourself - cheap , how easy or hard depends on your skill and dedication. 2. Pay somebody to do it - expensive , you'll get what you pay in terms of quality and time required. 3. Wait for somebody else to do it - cheap and uncertain, chances are that you will never get what you want. All of these models have/are being used throughout the history of the game.
