Forgotten? No.

But you are right nevertheless.

It will be boring shortly after the release, infact VERY shortly after that, because no matter how good the game will be, it won't please the crowds.

It won't turn out into settling the game on the shelves, though, but in demanding more patches, more planes, more maps, more options, more eyecandy, etc. Just like it was with every release and every patch for IL2. And since the first release will "only" model the Battle of Britain, people will cry out suffering in pain and ask why, oh why they should buy the title if plane xy is not included. Again, just like it was in the days of IL2.

And even though they were told over and over again, that this is only the start into a new era of game-engine, covering all theaters from WW1 to Korea and later, they will cry out still.

I doubt that the crowds will momentarily grow up the moment BoB is released.

It will only be boring for those with short attention spans.. FB is still interesting to me.. even before I decided to use the mods. The mods only made it even better... but stock 4.09b1 was the bee's knees in my book... I wonder sometimes why this community can be so fickle and insatiable.. Like flight sim nymphomaniacs..

It's kind of like your opinion of where you live or your outlook on a particular day...It's what YOU make of it that will determine YOUR satisfaction with it. If you dwell on the fact you'd rather be somewhere else or that your day is doomed to suxxor, then nothing will make either of them better. Same with something that has been highly anticipated for a long long time. The anticipation often leads to expectations that are almost impossible to satisfy.

The fact of it is, we have been waiting (some impatiently) for this sim for a couple years and accordingly will expect it to be everything we've imagined. In that regard, there will be considerable disappointment no doubt. Once mission-makers learn the ins and outs of putting together good balanced missions and some type of program is included/developed to measure those victory parameters (like FBDaemon and ServerCommander), then the sim will rest on its high points and likely will experience a similar ebb and flow with each expansion that IL2 has had.

Some of us will definitely find fault with the new sim but I think that all of us will be able to appreciate the advancement made by Oleg and crew in term of flight sim quality. I know that many would have probably been happy with a refresh version of iL2 in terms of graphics... but we are getting more then that...

I really hope that 1C sells a new plane avery 2 months or so. That would be a great way for them to maximise revenues. Just produce a pay for addon every two months with a new plane. That way we get new planes and 1C gets more revenues... we all win...

I know some will argue that paying $20-$30 us per plane is insame, but I see it more as a way to keep this genre alive. Also if 1C was smart about it (and I beleive Oleg is) he would licence the right to sell planes to 3rd party. The way I see it, 1C give strick guideline to follow, a third party submits the planes to 1C if accepted it goes on sales for a given price (law of supply and demand (plane that are more in demands should get more $$$) and 1C gets a % of all sales... voila extra revenues... No work required... just for giving a 3rd party the opportunity to make money using the BOB-SOW trademark... This way you motivate the 3rd parties and 1C makes more revenues.

I really hope that Oleg does not pass on this opportunity to make more $$$ and gives a free ride to everybody like he did with iL2.

Regards,

That might perhaps work for the off-line market - but sure as heck would make the on-line scene confusing!

Not really you have the planes needed to join a particular server listed in the server info... like you have for mods for many FPS....

I agree! I think that sell planes separately can cause some problems. Imagine some people complaining about better planes because they paid for it. This will do some damage to gameplay. The developers can "cheat" some planes because they want to sell it.

We will have players with have much money to burn with better planes! And this will be frustrating!

In FSX sell planes works because it isnt a combat sim and gameplay is not damaged if a Flight Modelm is not programed with accuracy. There is no competitors, the only important thing to do is only fly, nobody is interested in planes performances at all.not

Who could get bored with the Battle of Britain? Flying in at altitude in your Me 109e, depending how far you fly in you have between twenty and ten minutes combat time before you must break for home
Awesome stuff.
Flying ADW I sometimes spend ten to twenty minutes stalking my prey... Every minute is worth it as you dive down and squeeze the trigger.

But thats me!

Yes others will scream for more but like most I believe with the italian planeset already in SOW BoB a mediteranian campaign/added on will come very quickly.
My guess is shortly after that will be operation barbarosa, early Eastern front and Finnish winter war.
Planeset will not have changed much from BoB, just newer spits and the early Russian stuff in barbarosa and the F series Me 109 for the huns.

As Oleg himself said he will open up the game to modders (only smaller maps from the begining) and only keep the bigger maps for SOW add-ons.
I expect them to turn out an add-on a year. Add to that the Korean project working forward and a possible WW1 working forward as well and we are in for a hell of a ride.

So maybe those that will be bored are those that really don't deserve SOW, but then they never hang around long anyway.
