NO, definitely the effect of the trees at 2000 ft. is not fine at all. It is simply horrible. The tree does appear like little dots in front of the plane and disappear in the back. And because there are no tree at greater range the scene is bad at long range it is difficult to look at. It is a steep back. The previous patch for this was better, far better. Also there is no FPS benefit.

There have been multiple accounts of this being fixed by changing the trees quality in your video options.

Clouds don't give nearly the fps hit that they used to, can't wait for more missions with heavy cloud cover.

What I'm seeing (all online)

The Bad

-Still terrible FPS hits on the ground especially with dust.
-Clouds still cause an unacceptable FPS hit when an enemy is near and clouds don't really work anyways. Limited to 1500m in height and only a medium setting in FMB
-Stutters seem the same / but seem to happen more randomly
-netcode is still untouched / laggy/warping with 40+ players / AI fly sideways / Ships fly in the air / Ships don't sink sometimes.
-LOD is terrible on distant aircraft. You might as well put a magnifying glass on your screen if you're playing at native resolution to spot a plane only 500m away.
-Dot transition is still terrible. Absolutely no AA/AF at a distant contact. Zoom in and you think you're playing an Atari (while looking at a bogie)
-New Stuka siren only heard by the pilot of that Stuka. No external siren at all.
-New models of aircraft fail to have their engines start online
-Same graphics bugs in various cables/controls in planes where you can see through them
-default skins packs that came with the game still don't show up if server has skin download off
-etc.,etc.,etc.,
-Basically - too many bugs to list.
-I could write a page of bugs just in the FMB alone, but they've all been reported here time and time again.

Good

-Tracer distance looks nice.
-Ricochets look nice
-Game does "feel" more smooth
-No CTD in 4 hours of play
-UBI logo fixed
-You can get out of a spin in a 109 now
-stuka has a siren (in cockpit only)
-can't think of anymore right now

Wow Bliss...

I know this is a Beta but that amount of bugs (still) after all this time?

How many so called Betas are we going to get...seems to me they still have a mountain to climb as from what i gathered the devs only seemed to think its the FMs that needed the most work, definitely 1 step forward and 3 back.....

Flew again for 30mins, didn't ctd in game but did once id landed and hit the escape button also I'm not sure if its because I've been flying hsfx a bit lately but the 109 doesn't seem as stable?, I'm not on about when trying to recover stalls and spins but general flying...bit too twitchy?

The "1 step forward, x steps back" thing implies they are breaking stuff. In reality, these are gameplay bugs that have existed for a long time and still exist because they are not graphics bugs--> this series of patches is meant to fix what everyone wanted the most from the start: graphical performance.

The rest is just whatever they can squeeze in as time permits (eg, AI fixes, the 100 octane RAF fighters), but the focus is on stability and performance.

In the grand scheme of things, i think it's time to look at the big picture somewhat and gradually get the tools to recreate a bombing campaign.

We've had to wait a year and a half for a working gyrocompass on the Ju88 and we didn't raise as much of a fuss as the one some people are currently raising about the autogen bug with the trees

And the reason is that there are too many people who will drown you out, because they care mostly about 2 things: having their favorite fighter to fly and acceptable FPS. The rest of the sim is largely lost to them, to the point that it's not that they don't care, but many don't even know that there are things needing fixing besides what they ask for.

I say let's report the remaining bugs and get them sorted. If this patching sequence is successful and results in an official patch that fixes stability/performance, the gameplay bugs will then be easier to deal with. For example, we could be getting mini-fixes that deal with a specific aircraft each week

This is one of my bigger gripes with online play.
It really really really! hurts the online play when we don't have a true dedicated server that reports itself to steam. Nevermind Linux servercode.
The fact that the best server you can imagine bottlenecks at about 40players is just crazy....

1946 had prediction problems when fighters made violent maneuvers, but it seems worse in this game instead of being improved.
Same for bombers, they just freeze in the air when someone lags or his pc chokes for a few seconds..with better prediction this wouldn't be nearly as bad and it would improve formation flying alot.
I partly accept it's due to my lowly upload of 420Kbps and distance to the server (Eu=> US), but even people who basically sit on top of the server and have 10Mbit upload report the same issues.

In 1946 regular events were held where 10-20 bombers took off together and flew in formation to target, all the while being covered by escorts and attacked by the opposing fighters.
This stuff is what allows online communities to carry a game for 10+ years like happened with the original IL2.
But it isn't even tried in CLOD as we all know it would turn into a laggy, crashy disaster.
