Think of it like replacing the engine in a car..... the car will still look exactly the same but the performance will be greatly increased.

The car engine/car appearance analogy is a good one. I'm hoping the improved performance will enable heavier cloud formations to be used, especially in online play, without the current massive hit in frame rates. It would certainly add to the realism and immersion, plus radically change the dynamics of gameplay for the better, IMHO.

That would be great as clouds are the big performance killer for me at the moment..... but having them present really adds to immersion. what I am really clinging to is the mad hope I'll be able to switch those shadows on. I have noticed that, even on my humble PC, I am getting an average FPS of around 56 on ATAG and yet on ACG, which uses a lot of clouds, I am lucky if I scrape by on 21 fps.

At the risk of sounding like a total "Fanboy", I am deeply in love with this simulator, warts and all. When the patch finally arrives I may even start a rudimentary religion in its honour.

Totally agree, your spot on there Snapper,I'd love to see better cloud formations,it's one of the things that would look good and add to the realism/immersion.
