Do you live for simming. I ask after reading some posts.
In my twenties and thirties I did. Guilty as charged. Like a drug addiction. Now I await anxiously for a new patch to another sim. But I must have mellowed in my forties. I find now I can: - play another computer game, we're spoiled for choice - press the off button on the computer - read a book - watch a movie - go to the gym for a swim - play with my son - go fishing and camping - give my wife a break and take our son to one of his activities (and hang out with the yummy mummies) ![]() - build a model plane - play cricket - go to the football - and yes, even talk to the wife. I'm not criticizing any forum members, just my two cents worth. |

Im almost 20 years old and I dont live for simming. I really appreciated aircraft so playing sims is a great way to be able to get as close as i may come to some of these aircraft. According to steam i have put just over 60 hours into CloD since day 1 release. I do alot of other things with my time like gigging in a band, my business is in photography, exploring parts of the country, making music (currently making music for Eagle Dynamics next DCS game btw

I wouldn`t call it live for simming. Some people just have empty, pathetic lives that they`ve ruined themselves. So they go on blaiming everyone else for it, because they can`t stand the bitterness or anyone else that has it better. Hence the negativity on this forum.

It's hard to give a fair assessment, in my years of simming I always been more drawn to the attention to details and accurate behaviour of FMs and carefully refrained from joining "virtual squadrons": I've always been involved with real aircraft and because of this I've often been offered to join several squadrons, so that I could chip in with my experience, but I've never been a huge fan of hierarchies, let alone spending time with folks that take themselves too seriously, because let's not forget this, it's a hobby, a game, not the real deal. When fly dogfights I often apply decision making strategies that you would apply to real life, and others struggle with this cos, well, they're boring. Sometimes I feel like throwing myself head on and guns blazing, others time I just wanna use strategy and skills to overcome scenarios against all odds. But yes, I don't have a lot of time for this because of real life commitments (work, family, hobbies, social life). I suppose this is the reason why I'm happy to pay for a finished product that I can use in my few precious free moments, but as we know it's not always the case. Frustration plays a big role in all this I think, some people don't think of themselves as capable of achieving better and pour all their energies (good and bad ones) into sims. It's a whole interesting world, but I think of myself as an occasional lurker more than a protagonist. |

It was a lot of fun I did not see another flight sim until I got out of the army and was going to collage around 1992. I had just bought my 1st PC for 'school'. A 286 with a turbo button to go from 8MHz to 12! Woot! But I have to admit I did more flying than studying on that PC. There was this game called LHZ, or something like that.. got me going, but then I found Red Baron by Dynamix.. WOW! Over the next few years, early 90s, hay day of flight sim, I bought just about every one made.. AOTP, AOE, CYAC, SWOTL, etc etc.. As I started taking more programing classes at school I started hacking/modding games. My first was to mod SWOTL to add rockets to the P38. I also made a but load of mods for AOTP and AOE that can still be found here (search for Tagert) http://acepage.beckament.net/aotp.html That was all before 'online' was really an option.. Way before any Internet gaming. There was one flight sim that stood out for realism and online play Air Warrior You could join via your modem.. And the price was to play was only a mer $12/hr So, as a starving student I didn't get a chance to play Air Warrior much online! ![]() Than a little sim called Warbirds (initially confirmed kill) came out and the price was much better, can not recall what it was but it was no $12/hr! Played Warbirds for years! Than a whole new concept came about.. Free to play online! Which was led up by, yes you guessed it, IL-2. It took awhile, and what with the held of HyperLobby IL-2 soon emptied the Warbirds and other online arenas I don't play as much as I did when I was a starving student, back than I didn't have much of a choice. But now that I have some 'extra' money I do a lot of the things you mentioned about, I even venture into a good FPS game (ARMA) from time to time, but my first love was and always will be flight sims Anyway, enough about me! I want to welcome you to the forums! For your very first post here I want to thank you for giving me the opportunity to reminisce about my own flight sim path! I think you will find this forum very helpful with any of your CoD questions, all you have to do is learn to ignore the handful of people here who are dedicated to looking for any opportunity to say something negative about this sim.. Even if it has been said 100,000 times before, Even if the developers acknowledged it and said they are working on it, and Sadly Even if it is not true! Avoid them and I think you will find this forum very enjoyable

Doubt with todays amount of games and other forms of entertainment you'll find anyone below 40 who's stuck to just one game (and only to gaming).
Personally I'm stuck on picking a new mountain bike. Can't decide which model to buy... so freaking hard to decide it eats away my time since a week with no progress... Compared to that the wait for the CloD patch is a joke (it's summer anyways! get out of your basements! ![]() |
