Is the Radeon HD5770 a good one for IL2 '46 or CloD?

Hi all,

I've been away from IL2 for ages and have read about various probs with some Ati cards. I can get the Sapphire Radeon HD5770 FleX 1GB for a really good price. Do you any of you know any issues that would prevent playing in OpenGL/Perfect, like flickering etc?

I've got a Q6600 quad core with 6GB RAM.

I run a 5770. It's great for 1946 but on the lower end for CLOD. I'd get one a little more powerful if I were you.

You shouldn't have any issues with IL2 and that card. I run a 5670

5770 will do very well for il2 1946. actually i have the same fps (abut 90) with both 5770 and my current 7870.
Full grahpics - all perfect etc.

MODs the story is a litle different. with mods fps will go down to about 20 fps some times- still very playable tough!


for COD: NOOOO - avoid it all costs!!
it wont be good enough. for cod cosnider a 6850 at least ( currently 100 euros or so) and if possible a 2gb version.

Yup, Open GL and settings to perfect. 11.10 drivers with no issues for 1946.

I can run CLoD but have to turn things down quite a bit. I'd look for a 2GB card for Dover.

Thanks guys for your warm welcome back and card insights.

I was thinking of an el-cheapo upgrade (I currently have a, ahem, 4670 lol). Well, it's done me okay.

I'll likely be flying IL2 (modded) for the next year while Dover smooths itself out. In fact it's some of the amazing mods which have pulled me back after doodling around for a while with other games (Command Ops: Battles from the Bulge, Achtung Panzer: Operation Star and Dirt 2).

I've actually got CloD but you can imagine what it's like with a 4670(!). It would be nice to have the ability to play it. In that case, another option would be a Palit GTX560 2GB, which is listed here:

I've heard good and bad things about Palit. Any thoughts about them and the card for CloD? It certainly should do the job. Clearly overkill for IL2 though.

a 560 is reporeted to do very acceptable. a 2gb version should elimiante the lack of memory issues too.

teorectly that GPU should work nicely.

Edit: jsut checked the price. waht about a 7850? same price... and should be better no?

i ahve a 7870 and it aces the game. and a 7850 isnt that much worst.
