But saying nothing can be worse than saying something

Even if it is as short as to say 'nothing new to report'

Because if the devs don't say something the whiners will fill in the 'void' with their imaginations and baseless unfounded speculations.

Agreed. It is my opinion that this forum is now relying on people like you to keep it above board and civilised. You are doing a good job of keeping the unruly elements down.
