Talking Change gun loadout in campaigns

Hi,
I just got the game, and I was wondering how to change ammo types on guns. I always aim for the engines or the wings, but when I open fire with the hurricane, it takes ages before it goes down. I feel like my guns don't have the right ammo type. I see parts flying off, but never flames or something like that. I remember from il-2 1946, that bombers always ripped up after a couple of salvos. I have to turn on unlimited ammo before 1 goes down. I have the idea to be shooting with a BB-gun. Or maybe it's because I'm just a big noob lol

Put in a nice ammo mix like:

6 AP
4 ball
1 incendiary
1 Tracer

Shoot to your convergence.

Convergence is more important than the load out.

I found that the default (and incidentally pretty accurate from a historical point) load out for the 8 brownings is pretty deadly to both wings and pilots if you configure your gunsight correctly.

Personally, I use 136 vert/164 horizontal which works out to 180 yards convergence.

Memorize the wing sizes of the various aircraft (or make a cheat sheet for your desk) and set your sight before attacking that aircraft.

The default loadout uses both Observer rounds and Tracers (and in a very odd gun pattern), which seems to be at odds with historical sources I have read and no where near as effective as custom loadouts. The Observer rounds are as useful as disc brakes on a tortoise!

The problem is that all the stock missions/campaigns use this default loadout and the only way to overcome that is to create custom loadouts and then edit the mission files using notepad or the FMB to use one of those instead.

There are quite a few threads on how to do this as well a example loadouts that work far better than the default one - best search the forum and have a read.

Multiplayer is not such a problem - create your loadouts, name them and save but there is a bug in the way you exit the loadout menu which prevents the custom loadout being saved - all the info is in the various 'loadout' threads.

Ang yes. Bombers are more difficult than IL1946 so convergence, etc, is important,

Oh Ok. I was wondering how to change the default loadout in campaign missions, but now I get it. What is FMB? Full Mission Builder?

Hm, I'll have to check again. I didn't think I saw any observer in my default load out. Tracer/incendiary in the outer guns, two guns with AP, three guns with ball, and 1 gun with De Wilde. That's pretty much spot on I think.

And I've tried many many different variations including half AP/half de Wilde, 4 to 1 ratio all belts AP to de Wilde, etc. The default works just as well (and seems to work better sometimes) if you get the convergence right when you're shooting.

Fire up CloD
Go to Extras, select full mission builder.

OK, a fair while ago I posted this info regards changing weapons loadouts using 'Notepad' (or Wordpad) to add the custom loadouts directly into campaign and mission files without using Full Mission Builder for anyone not familiar with using it. This sounds complicated but is quite simple. I have placed a example single mission in the next post that you can copy/paste to try a diferent loadout to the stock one. Instructions are at the beginning.

http://forum.1cpublishing.eu/showthread.php?t=21773

First, User loadouts are stored in a User.Ini file under what ever name you saved them and for each ac that you create a custom loadout. The User.Ini should be found in the 1C game folder and the Steam Folder but for some odd reason not always.

The Loadouts themselves are created in each planes weapons options menu - it is here that you select the ordinance for each gun and set your convergence then name and save your loadout.

Once you have done that, open the User.ini file with notepad and you should see your weapons loadout associated with the ac.

Have a read of the thread I linked - you can copy the sample loadouts in the thread by highlighting the text - Ctrl C to copy the text into your PC's memory then Paste Ctrl-V directly into the mission file the sample does not use the De Wilde - just add code 11 in each of the eight guns -----that will sort the hun out!

All the Mission files are stored with the extension .MIS in the mission folder of the game directory and these are just simple text files that you can also open with Notepad and edit - once again some are in 1C and others in Steam Directory.

The thread shows sample loadouts and how to simply paste your weapons loadouts from the user.ini file directly into the mission file. You can even create your loadouts using notepad directly into the user.ini file

Do a search for Weapons loadouts -there are plenty of threads.
