What do you mean with activating drop tanks? Drop tanks are used automatically and need to be dropped when you can see that the fuel is starting to be used from the main tanks. If you indeed drop bombs when hitting the DT jettison button (default is Ctrl+T), then you should check that you haven't bound it for Weapon 4 (bombs) as well.
