Default UK Virgin Media STM (warning)

Changes from VM on the 2/4/12

They rolled this out without notifying anyone by the look of it, so the advertised unlimited download is no longer applicable.
It was always a great selling point for VM.

I just got a 75% reduction (traffic shaping) on my service after my son updated his Steam account.

VM has had STM for years, only the top tier (possibly two) was unmanaged before IIRC.

I had 10 meg for domestic and 50 meg business

10 meg was not STM'd untill 2/4/12 same as 50 & 100meg they have done it across the board now.

The family used 10 meg for all the usual stuff but they are looking at all traffic these days including Youtube and online film streaming not just p2p or torrents.

Wont be long I guess? I'm tied with Sky until September too.

I can only get about 4MB down from them, but I'm able to download as much as I need any time of day with no worrys, and compared to my last ISP's where you are tied to peak and off peak hours for an allowance, this is a luxury.

I hope Sky don't follow, but I bet they will ... usually if an ISP changes their terms and conditions in contract you can get an opt out though if you push for it.

They cant do that, they have to notify you, otherwise they will get fined silly by OFCOM.

Check enthusiast sites like Think Broadband for the full skoop on whats happening with you.

http://forums.thinkbroadband.com/virgin_cable.html

There is a Virgin ADSL forum too, but no mention if it there, so i assume you are Cable.

Good Luck.

Then you were an exception, they have had stm in place and active for years.

Here is a news article from may 2009 stating a change to the limits: http://www.cable.co.uk/news/virgin-m...ment-19172188/

I notice they are picking on file sharing services, that would be nothing to do with their support for the record and film industries, and the awful Digital Rights Act now would it.

Filth.

Change your ISP if they have changed your contract it works both ways. I actually use BT now and have no troubles at all.
