One of you has to hit "create new server" and set up the game, then the other hits "Join server" and plugs in the IP of the other guy. No matter how many players (2-32) one has to be the "server". The good news is that the server has control over everything.
Make sure that if you have a firewall, it is set to let the game use the proper port (usually 21000) Oh and BTW the port # must be added after the IP like this EG; 203.310.56.3:21000
