Default Optimising for CoD?

I appreciated the continued hard work, but on my quad core i7 2.8 with ATI 4850 512, its unplayable

Its unfortunate that alot of people find the sim unplayable with the 4850, hopefully the graphics optimizations in the next patch will help considerably.

You have to overclock your CPU as I did and probably set texture quality to low because you have 512MB VRAM only. It is playable for me after overclocking 2.8 >> 3.8 and system optimisation I did with HD4890 (and it is a veeeery cheap card now). No game optimisation will help these old cards with the visibility distances and cockpit details we have in this awesome game. HD4xxx are 3 generations too old now. Slowly saving for HD 7970

Check out the latest link in my sig for details.

Ataros,

I have an i7 920 2.67Ghz, not the newer extreme edition that you can easily overclock. Any idea if I can squeeze any more out of this one please?
Thanks

Thats a good prosessor to overclock. I have the same pros. and it goes to 3.40Ghz without voltagechange, i have only chanced BCLK Frequency to 170 from 133 from my motherboard bios. So it running 20 * 170 = 3.4Ghz.

I think the problem is more the 512 graphics card than the CPU. I play CoD with a 2.4Ghz Q6600 and a 1GB card (previously a 4850 1GB, now a GTX 285 1GB card)
Online on the ATAG server I get between 30 and 50 FPS after some serious tweaking in the settings menu.

Sorry, I have no idea.
What I would do is Google a good article about "overclock i7 920" and follow the instructions step by step. This is what I did for my CPU. Articles usually mention a cooler that is needed. Then I checked PC forums for alternative coolers that can be used because my retailer did not have one mentioned in the articles.

Some overclocking may be done with a stock cooler but not much.

Thanks guys, I'll start digging. I didn't realise it was possible with my bog standard i7 920.

Cheers

Overclocking the cpu might not help at all.
My PhenomII 1100T reaches about 45%max. with everything maxed out.
Your GPU and VRam is the limiting factor.
So, save your CPU and save for a newer, better GPU with at least 1GB VRam.

Thanks for the advice robtek. I'm saving for a new card right now and hope the best cards will come down a bit in the next 3 months.
