Depends really. If you use comms (teamspeak, ventrillo etc) you will need a mic.
I have had everything from expensive Sennheissers to cheapo headsets, and can't tell any difference in sound quality in games.
could be my hearing though...

I use the g35? Its a good 7.1 surround sound ~£100, it has space to attach a track ir clip but its wired... Only con.

I am thinking about buying the G930, it's the wireless version, and then mod my track clip to make it wireless as well

I think the one I have used for the last couple of years cost me about £10, a replacement for my £100 Sennheissers that died (the second set that did that!)
The only thing I would like on them is a mute button for Krupi...

Go for the Rocat Kave 5.1 mate, great headset, great proce and great writeups too!

A squad mate recently took his g35 back and exchanged it for the Kaves and said they were a much better headset.

They completely cover the ear which isolates any background noise, it also has a nice base driver that massages the ear

Cant recommend them enough

I have used many combination headsets with mics over the years. Either the comfort was horrible or the quality was lacking. I tried on a set of Bose over the ears headphones and haven't looked back. Extremely comfortable, lightweight and well built. Can wear these for hours without knowing they are there. They aren't cheap however. In addition, I use a low cost mic attached to my collar which transmits very good voice signal.

Headset:

Mic:

There may be better solutions out there but this combo is the best I've had.
