For 1C as an east european puplisher, the Battle of Moscow is the next logical step, maybe they think their audience is more interested in east szenarios then west.

Possibly, but I think moving to the 'East' will convince people in Central/Western Europe and the America's not to buy any add-on, especially if the only way to fix the current game is via this route.

Eastern front is fun, because:
1) Planeset is very varied: from biplanes like I-153 to high altitude MiGs. 2) Weather and landscape are rich (I mean, it is not channel or desert). 3) Ground war is very intense. Lots of work for ground attack planes, and fighters covering them. Frontlines can move pretty fast - important for MP and dynamic SP campaigns. 4) It does not require bunch of planes, which can't be made without paying royalties. |

The PTO was probally out of the question, modelling the participating Navies would require much time and unavaible resources. North Africa/Med would have provided more diverse mission opportunities and planeset. |

I think you're missing some of the plus points of the Battle of Moscow.
1. It's of central interest to 1Cs core customer base; the Russian market, meaning more people will invest in the game and keep the thing going. 2. By this emphasis on the core market Luthier is commiting himself to meeting the technical needs of the sim's core base which tends to have less capable machines to run this sim on than those of us in the west. |

Educated guess on what basis? gut feeling? If North America was 1C's largest market then how is it that throughout IL2's life North America has always been last to see a release?

I think it really matter that the Russian community is much more hostile than we are (it said Luthier), then he will choose a theme, which is closer to them. But not just them, i prefer the BoM too. I really look forward instead of bleak desert maps with LW, RAI, RAF types... again... little bored...

I'm with you on this one. With the amount of detailed ground vehicles and objects BoM is going to be a bonanza for ground pounding. Even the older Russian aircraft could be dangerous to ground troops. Be fun protecting either side's ground troops. Even more fun hedge hopping and strafing collumns of infantry and support vehicles in a Rata with 20mm canon and rockets.
