Hi Cheesehawk, the problem is the magic number on the very far right window (the NVIDIA Inspecor). If you read the "(Memory) Usage" it says 1213Mb 95% on a card which has 1290MB VRAM.

The moment you go over the available amount of VRAM your card has, your GPU starts swapping data in/out. Your fps are halved after that....
But the wost thing is that the game does not run smoothly but rather in a way of a strange stuttering which I can not explain in words....
After that you can not place a good deflection shot because you can not judge speed and movement of the target sufficiently.
This is the reason why I alway advice users for 3Gb GTX580 or 2.5Gb GTX570. But for me it is not worthwhile to upgrade as it will be a lot of money for only cosmetic improvement.
The next worst thing is that the dreaded memory leak will appear much faster.

To answer your question, I used to fly with settings like this

I had 60fps high and 28fps over the seaside city near Manston but sometimes it went down to 18fps when many planes around.

What ruined my fun was the memory leak (I never fly that low so the low fps over the city was more of an exception than the rule).
Wth my new settings I can fly for a couple of hours before voluntarly resetarting CoD.
