Thumbs down Good News and Bad News

The good news.... I joined ATAG server last night and there were 57 people on. Thats awesome. I really hope the community continues to grow.

The bad news....

A) It is still extremely difficult to find a fight and maintain visual contact on your prey even with 57 people on the server. I constantly see things and they vanish in mid air.

B) Time Bandit has been drafted into the RAF. Last night I spent 45 minutes looking for a fight. I finally found one and dove on a spitfire. He took a shallow banking right and I had the perfect deflection shot lined up. I pulled the trigger watching my rounds heading for his wings... Little did I know, the pilot of this aircraft was the seldom seen but much feared Time Bandit. Just as they were about to demolish his airframe, Time Bandit hit is emergency chronosphere button and slid 2 miles in front of me at an estimated 2000 KPH. After he was clear out of range of my guns he banked a 20 G right turn continuing at 2000 KPH until he was right behind me firing away... I quickly lost my surface controls and plumeted to the earth....

I wish I had a video of this. If the RAF had the Time Bandit on their side the BOB would have been over much sooner.

I love this game but damn was that frustrating. Please fix this soon so playing online doesn't feel like such a waste of time.

Just a friendly warning to my fellow pilots. If you meet time bandit just do yourself a favor and bail out before he gets his finger on that chronosphere button.

Read you rambling about it yesterday, had something like that on the Repka server, dove onto a spit, which went into a light turn, giving me the perfect position to fire, the moment i hit that plane, it literally breaked so hard, that i almost rammed it. but since i got the pilot, it didn´t pursue and went down.

what you describe is a simple lag, in your case it has been disastrous to you. the same can happen in any game.

just my 2c

I understand... Lag can suck. I'm no programmer but someone mentioned yesterday that it could also be caused by a memory leak or code issue within the game? (not saying that lag isnt the cause but maybe the code issue or memory leak is causing excessive lag?)

It also doesn't help that amost all the servers are in the UK or russia and I'm in NYC but everyone was experiencing the same issue. Isn't there some type of optimization that developers do on the servers / game? That was the whole reason for the BF3 beta I thought. To test the servers / how the game would run with lots of people playing.

I hope the game gets more popular over here.

the ATAG server is located in the US, Nuclear Fallout Enterprises seems to host it, yep it does: http://www.nfoservers.com/ .

The memory leak seems to cause the Launcher.exe issue, where the game hits a certain percentage of ramusage and it crashes.

so if the server is in the us and close to me your saying that the game will never be able to support more than 50 people or so? Theres got to be some optimization and it's not just regular lagg? or is it just that this game has no official servers provided by the devs with mondo server machines ect..?

i have to admit, that i can´t say anything on that. would be nice, if some atag guy could say something about their server, other than it´s a whole lot of fun nonetheless .

We call those Ghosts, and they're normally sprites that appear where AI bombers previously were. After a while you learn to deal with them.

As far as spotting fighters, it's more difficult than 1946 but once you get the hang of it it's not so bad. Just give it time and you'll naturally get better.

Just network lag again. It's too bad it resulted in getting shot down but that's the reality of online games I'm afraid. The next patch is supposed to help with these stutters.

I've played on ATAG when there were 80+ people on and it was fine.

The memory leak you've been hearing about is in the client. After a while your game will eat up all your system memory and then crash.

To combat this I exit and restart my game after every sortie. It changes a super irritating bug to something only mildly annoying.

.
Been playing since release. It hasn't gotten any easier... It's usually just luck when I see something below me, and even after spotting a contact, trying to keep an eye on it over land is impossible. as soon as it flys over anything but a golden field it's gone. (I fly 109 so am always at 3k or higher)
