Thanks for the updates guys.

Latest is the MOD have confirmed flight lieutenant Jon egging was today killed when his RAF red arrow crashed just outside Bournemouth airport.

A mayday was heard before he went down and it's said he did everything possible in the last few seconds to avoid civilian casualties etc.

RIP mate.

It was a fatal crash and it was Red 4 that went down....

Flt Lt Jon Egging, 33, from Rutland, was killed when his Hawk T1 aircraft - Red 4 - crashed about 1km south east of Bournemouth Airport at 13:50 BST.

RIP.....

It is indeed sad. Maybe he survived the crash because locals jumped into the river to get him. Obviously I'm only speculating though from what I've read while over here.

It's a tragic loss. Thoughts go out to his wife.

Since it's a military jet though it's a very tight cordon around the crash site. We will hear more on it soon I'm sure.

So sad to hear Jon Egging (red 4) died in today's crash, this got me thinking, he used the last few seconds of his life making sure his Hawk T1 was as far away as possible from harming anyone. We have to many knobheads in this country with the "Bollocks to it as long as I'm ok" attitude as the riots not so long ago proved, did i know Jon Egging personally no, but his actions speak loudly of the man he was and what this country needs more of! RIP

If you watch the footage, he did manage to level out, so I don't think it was a wingtip stall, even though he did turn very sharply. It's more likely to have been a compressor stall or flameout, and at that altitude he would not have been able to recover and restart the engine in time.

I suspect he stayed with the aircraft rather than ejecting, due to there being housing on the flight path and that he chose to 'spike' the aircraft into the ground in a field and it went horribly wrong. A truly brave man.

The AAIB will report as to the actual reason for the crash in due course, so these comments above are just my opinion.

As others have said, and having seen more than my fair share of accidents, I hope his family are coping.

All I can say was it wasn't a flame out or engine cut off - the smoke was still on - meaning the exhaust gass temp was still high.
