With my 9500GT card, all the settings set to low, and only shadows and road active, and screen set to a 1024x768 window, I flew for 23 minutes and change then the sim froze up, with a couple of partial video losses just before the freeze. So, today, I bit the bullet and dropped $465.00 for an Nvidia GTX 580 ($400) and an 850-watt power supply ($65). I figure this ought to do the trick!

Welcome to the world of perfection!! This game is a totally different experience on maxed out settings which shouldn't be a problem with your new card.

RAM is cheap these days and Q9550 is overclockable so why not get 4 more ram and OC a bit?

1680x1050. I'm pretty much a newbie at the whole OC thing.

Best is to run game at native res. Sharpest and clearest. If you need more frames (fps) then lowering res (in game) will solve that for you.

Rgr at OC. Well, if u need more frames in the future then you know u got some more right there.

Sounds good! I should have the new parts here in a day or two.

I upgraded my system some... I changed to a stronger power supply (850W), changed to an NVidia GTX 580 w/1.5GB, and doubled my RAM to 8GB.

Now, I can fly two complete missions, but start to see some stuttering as I land at the end of the 2nd mission, and when I'm done, and hit ESC, the sim drops me back to my desktop. If I hit ESC again, I'm back in the cockpit. Hit ESC a 3rd time, and I'm back to my desktop, and the sim fails to respond, and I have to use Task Manager to end the program.

There's not much more that I can do to my system, that I know of. I'm new to the world of "overclocking" stuff (i.e. I don't know squat about overclocking... LOL).

Anyone have any thoughts on how to make this sim work a bit longer, without the freeze-up after two missions?

Thanks,

Ed
