an idea for a non falling bullet, has been made?
the bullets are known to spin on its velocity vector axe
how about made a bullet spin in its perpendicular to the velocity vector? on this way going the upper surface faster again the wind than the bottom one it wouldnt fall and float thanks to our loved bernouilli anyones knows if its been done? it would be a matter of making a spherical bullet just in contact with the bottom of the cannon

It's been done for paintball. The rounds still drop, but they go much further before they do.
Doesn't work as well as you'd think, and also you lose muzzle speed. |

yep use that system in air-soft...plastic ball get fired through chamber with a little rubber nub at the top which protrudes down and spins the BB, its adjusted to suit weight of BB to get maximum spin/distance

Don't most of these guns in WWII fighters fire supersonic rounds? I think they do... but I know almost nothing about ballistics and machine gun technology and all that kind of stuff so I'm probably wrong.
Anyway, if they're supersonic then that adds a whole new level of complication to your plan, because the effects of supersonic aerodynamics can be unusual and unintuitive. And of course you need to figure out how to keep your bullet stable as it decelerates from supersonic to subsonic speeds. It's probably a better idea to stick to good old-fashioned rifling while we wait for our awesome fat laza beamz. |

I think you are probably right, White Owl - I can't see how the Magnus effect could work at supersonic speeds.

Guys. The Magnus effect arises then, if the spin axis is perpendicular onto the motion vector (wind vector). The firearms bullet spin axis is parallel. Not the same!
The paintball, airsoft bullet twirls around the cross axis, not around the longitudinal axis. There is a Magnus effect because of this. Anyway, compared to the velocity, the spin much faster (looking at his proportions) than at the firearms.
