Default New Custom Mission for Online Play: Airlift Mission

Hey guys,

As my arcade group and I just finished up the first half of my Battle of Stalingrad series last night, I wanted to share a brand new mission I developed for it in case others might want to give it a try. This mission will need at least 10 people with 12 or more the most ideal set up. Stalingrad will likely be the best map to use since it has 7 airfields available, forcing the opposing side to work together to find the bombers with so many possible destinations. Other maps can be used if desired, but if they are, I recommend a map with a minimum of 3 airfields. The mission will be posted with a player count of 12 people.

Airlift Mission
For my purposes last night, we were recreating one of many airlift missions undertaken by the Luftwaffe to re-supply the 6th Army trapped inside the Stalingrad Cauldron.

Date: December 4th
Year: 1942
Time: Day
Mission: Strike
Location: Stalingrad - Winter
Weather: Blind
Time Limit: 20 minutes

VVS (Team A):
6 Yak-1Bs

Luftwaffe (Team B):
3 He 111s - Representing transport aircraft
3 Bf 109s (E-3, F-4 or G-2s, the G-6 wasn't active over Stalingrad)

Mission Rules:
- Bombers must land at any friendly airfield, scoring 1 point for each successful landing.

- No bomber can land at the same airfield twice.

- Abganerovo and Karpovka airfields will be considered Soviet airfields for this mission.

Objective:
- If the Luftwaffe team scores 9 or more points (score needed is determined as 3 points per bomber used in the mission), then the Luftwaffe will be considered winners for this mission. If the Luftwaffe fail to score 9 or more points, then the Soviet team will be considered winners for this mission.

Note: First owing to history, since Karpovka airfield was evacuated by December 1942, it was considered a hostile airfield and could not be landed at for this mission in my series. However, for others it can still be friendly or even fewer can be used to land at if someone wishes if they want to try this mission out. I have two more Airlift missions slated for later in the series with each one having fewer and fewer airfields as the pocket began to close in. Second, again owing to history, on December 4th 1942, there was a thick fog bank over the Stalingrad Cauldron which transport pilots liked due in helping to evade fighter interception. However, unless you're gluttons for punishment and are just looking for a challenge, I'd suggest you stay away from the blind weather, lmao! We had the hardest time navigating this mission and only scored 3 of 12 points (4 bombers) for a pitiful attempt, lol! I do take comfort in knowing that the Luftwaffe faired as bad as we did in attempting the Stalingrad Airlift, lol! Lastly, for a detailed location description of all 7 airfields on the Stalingrad map, check the link below and read posts #12 and #13. Post #12 has thumbs of 5 of the airfields (Abganerovo is the 4th pic from the left), while post #13 has a detailed description of the other 2.

Thanks Hicks-81! Yeah it was a load of fun despite our pitiful showing that night, lol! I think the next two Airlift matches will be considerably better though, because they'll take place in Hazy weather where we'll actually be able to see the airfields, lmao!!! Did you check out my other thread on the Evacuation Mission? That seemed to be the favorite of the night amoung the group! You're more than welcome to join us anytime if you can make it on at 10:30pm EST. Our next gathering is scheduled for tomorrow (Thursday, 2nd) night!

Thanks RuffMonk, but I fear that the time difference stop me playing. Here will be a 7:30 pm, and I would be work.

If it was a weekend I could have probably.

Good Luck and enjoy

Well it's not official, as I usually tend to ask my guys prior to the start of the mission, but I'm planning on doing another gathering after Thursday on either Saturday (4th) and/or Sunday (5th) depending on everyone's scehdules. If you want, shoot me a friend request and I'll add you to the message list. We still have 11 more missions to run through and with 2 missions per night, we're still looking at about roughly 2 weeks to go since I usually work in breaks as we have a couple of GMT guys that run with us. My handle is the same as on here!
