Default New Custom Mission for Online Play: Evacuation Mission

Hey guys,

As my arcade group and I just finished up the first half of my Battle of Stalingrad series last night, I wanted to share a brand new mission I developed for it in case others might want to give it a try. This mission will need at least 10 people with 12 or more the most ideal set up. Stalingrad will likely be the best map to use since it has 7 airfields available, forcing the opposing side to work together to find the evacuating aircraft with so many possible destinations. Other maps can be used if desired, but if they are, I recommend a map with a minimum of 3 airfields. The mission will be posted with a player count of 12 people.

Evacuation Mission
For my purposes last night, we were recreating the Romanian evacuation of Karpovka airfield shortly after the 6th Army became encircled at Stalingrad.

Date: November 23rd
Year: 1942
Time: Morning
Mission: Strike
Location: Stalingrad - Winter
Weather: Poor
Time Limit: 30 minutes
Note: Limited ammo is recommended for this mission.

VVS (Team A):
5 Yak-1Bs
1 IL-2 or 2M (see mission rules below)

Luftwaffe (Team B):
3 Bf 109 E-3s - Representing the evacuating Romanian aircraft (GAL)
4 Bf 109 G-2s (used as they have no yellow markings, distinguishing them from the E-3s)
Note: In case 12 people are not used for this mission, it should be noted that the evacuating team should ALWAYS outnumber the opposing team, preferably by 2, to a minimum of 1.

Mission Rules:
- This mission will have a 30 minute time limit to give all aircraft time to get set up.

- 3 players will select Bf 109 E-3s representing evacuating GAL aircraft and must land at Karpovka (or other designated) airfield prior to the start of the game.

- Once all 3 GAL aircraft have come to a complete stop, the mission will "officially" begin.

- Neither team is allowed to attack until the mission has officially begun.

- Yaks are not allowed to attack grounded aircraft at the airfield being evacuated. However, once they lift off, they may be attacked as normal.

- The Soviet team has the option of switching one of their Yaks for an IL-2 or 2M.

- IL-2s are the only Soviet aircraft that can attack grounded aircraft at the airfield being evacuated.

- If an IL-2 is selected, it MUST begin the game at Abganerovo airfield (east side of Volga, behind Stalingrad). If the mission begins before the IL-2 can land, then the IL-2 must at least touch down at the airfield before it can attack. The IL-2 does not have to land again for the remainder of the mission.

- Evacuating GAL aircraft MUST take off from the evacuating airfield and will attempt to land at a designated destination airfield, scoring a single point for each successful landing (complete stop) at the destination airfield (the destination airfield is kept secret from the opposing team). This airfield should be at least 1 minute of flight time away from Karpovka (or other designated) airfield to give the opposing team a chance at interception.

- Once landed, the GAL aircraft must immediately return to Karpovka (or other designated) airfield and prepare for another attempt.

- Returning GAL aircraft should fly low to the ground with gear down and may NOT be attacked until they have taken off from Karpovka (or other designated) airfield.

- At the start of the mission, only 1 GAL aircraft is allowed in the air at a time. However, for each successful landing, an additional aircraft is allowed to join the previous number of aircraft allowed in the air. Returning GAL aircraft DO NOT count towards "aircraft allowed in the air" and are ignored for this purpose. Once a GAL aircraft has landed, crashed or been shot down, the the next available GAL aircraft can immediately take off.

Objective:
- If the Luftwaffe team scores 5 points or more before time runs out, then they will be considered winners for the mission. If they fail to score 5 or more points, then the Soviet team will be considered winners for the mission.

Note: First, though GAL aircraft awaiting takeoff cannot leave the airfield, they are allowed to taxi to avoid IL-2 attacks. Second, if returning GAL aircraft are eligible to take off upon return, they are allowed to simply touch down instead of coming to a full stop. Third, prior to the start of the mission while GAL/IL-2 aircraft get set up, other players are free to fly wherever they wish, keeping in mind that neither side is allowed to attack until the mission has officially started. Lastly, for a detailed location description of all 7 airfields on the Stalingrad map, check the link below and read posts #12 and #13. Post #12 has thumbs of 5 of the airfields (Abganerovo is the 4th pic from the left), while post #13 has a detailed description of the other 2.

Ohhhh, I didn't know that. Not that it would have helped with Frog defending the destination. It was a hectic match, but a lot of fun.

LOL, glad you had fun StiC!!! Yeah, that's why I forced the cover guys to fly G-2s since we were flying with our HUDs minimized or disabled. The F-4s, while not as obvious as the E-3s, also have yellow markings and so I left them out so as not to confuse you guys once you got close enough.
