You have to set the Land Detail on Medium or higher.

On low you cant see the runway.

The ones that don't shoot at you are friendly

On that note, AAA is significantly more dangerous now.. the MG class is nasty when flying at low altitude..

ground detail is set on high but still can't make them out easily when flying around. I wish the map was animated and showed your position. Maybe a GPS would help.

Part of the immersion is having no such thing, in my opinion. You slowly get to know the map and airfield positions, landmarks, roads, railways, towns, etc, and then use those for navigation. I'm running on low and I can find airfields easily enough, but then again I have next to no clutter (trees, grass, etc). I just see a larger green field with hangars and buildings around it. Didn't even know there were runways!

You can't even fly without GPS in RAF fighters imo, as you have no reliable way to know your heading

Once set, the dir. gyro is pretty accurate. One have to be stable for a while to reset it every now and then, but I find the compass very reliable indeed. I even applied the Mag variation (10 degr) and find I'm smack on track with the map.

Setting the Dir gyro is explained in several threads.
