An engine (any for that matter) is balanced either internally or externally and the only way it starts shaking (before mechanical damage) is if a cylinder starts misfiring. You'd be surprised how long an over heated engine can run on all cylinders smoothly. Anyhow, depending on the engine type, usually a blown head gasket, burnt valve etc (you lose cylinder pressure/compression/combustion is going where it's not supposed to) will the balance or in terms of IL2 "shaking" occur. If you overheat it long enough it could simply lock up completely due to friction, even before a misfire occurs and maintain a relatively smooth balance.

I've built quite a few engines (I'm a gear head). Hope that clears it up for you.
Well if you seize an exhaust valve that thing will shake like a m%t?r f$%?&r(...

Back from the first testing I ve got the following to say:

At first, game is still running ok (no massive problems noticed so far). With a screenresolution of 1920x1080 and all detailsettings to medium (grass off, all other things on) I flew over london.

There is no massive framedrop, but it is not running smooth "as silk" looks like litte micro stuttering. As I have got no AMD/ATI graphics card, I ve no graphical issues, running @fullscreen mode.

Then I went to MP. Seems like there are some performance issues now. I noticed the game stutters, when a new message in the chat window appears. Also it is stuttering from time to time (for no considerable reason...)

As some of the other posters mentioned, the radio is still not working, which I found annoying... please fix it .

Will test again in the evening.

Greetz

Thanks. Ill go and do a fresh install this evening hoping this will change anything. A word from Luthier to clear up the confusion on SLI would be nice. Patchnotes can be understood either way. That SLI is part of this patch or will be part of the next one...
If it was part of this one the patchnotes should read "SLI AND Crossfire support" not just "Crossfire Beta support".
Also some information on wich driver version they used to test SLI and wich Rendering mode gave the best results (SFR, AFR, AFR2 and so on) would be nice as well.

Yep, that's why what I said included this - (before mechanical damage occurs) as a valve is part of the mechanical workings of an engine.

Im the one that tests with gonk, for SLI you have to go into control panel and under "Manage 3D settings" select "Program Settings" tab. Add the launcher.exe to make a profile for COD found in "Steam\SteamApps\common\il-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover\launcher.exe".

Down the feature list for "SLI rendering mode" select "Force alternate frame rendering 1". I also enable Vsync in the game so its a good idea to enable Triple buffering as well.

The reason SLI is not enabled by default is because the launcher.exe is set to single card by default by the devs for the purpose of making the game compatible for non beta users.

For the benchmark I had these game settings:
4x AA although it doesn't look like it works properly.
SSAO on
Vsync off
Anti hetro filter off
Everything else on maximum except building amount on medium. =58fps average on the black death.

This beta enabling SLI is all dandy if you only play single player but I only play multiplayer.... My fps in multi is still very high but there is some strange shit going on that makes it unplayable..

I verified the game integrity to get it back to square 1 and then cleared the cache.
After this I applied the patch.

Appears that crossfire is working, smooth fps no stuttering with all high and as a side note I don't have the blue bands either on my double 6870 cards.

Havv't made any long tests just a quick mission with the bomber attack 5'fth from bottom
I think.

Feels better to me.

regards

Unhappy

One step forward, Two steps back.

Have no problems running the current "real" version and haven't tried a beta patch yet but glad I haven't cosidering that we're now going to Beta Beta Beta Beta patch. Or is this Beta Beta Beta? I'm loosing track.

Just frustrating to see no progress whatsoever. I love this sim but there seems to be a lack of focus here. working on the way cockpit needles bounce when half the community can't run the game.

C'mon guys what seems to be the problem? I hope you can get the basics running on everyones rigs soon so people can atleast enjoy the game. Then updates become bonuses!!

Love,

It seems for me that the new patch increased fps. Running well, sometimes stutters but after a while they re gone.

Flew the single player where Spits are encountering 110s. Everthing worked well but after leaving battle and headed home then above clouds i ll had a launcher.exe.

Above London/Le Havre disabling shadows and clouds the rest is set to medium or high except trees and building (low) its getting faster and smoother. Its a step forward for my rig.

PS: The 2D map is great now with all those airfields/town names.
