Ive seen inside alienware comps... they hare a really awesome looking tower on the outside, and cheap looking mid range components on the inside.... complete waste of cash.
like Langnasen said, build your own, or get someone you know to build one for you, that way you dont get ripped off |

There are many people who don't have the skill and or time to build their own machines. A good system builder will put together a fast, stable machine with quality components. The other thing you can get from the better companies is quality support. There are a number of very good companies out there that offer a proffesional build, top components and outstanding support. The two best in my experience are Falcon Northwest [very expensive] and Maingear. Maingear offers 99% of what you get from Falcon with first rate tech and customer support at a reasonable price point. Alienware is not in the same league as these companies. I have dealt with all and you cant go wrong with Falcon or Maingear. Either will take the time to give you sound advice about system configuration without sales pressure. Also, they will not try to upsell you on anything. Good luck.

Its basically a home built PC that you buy. They may throw in some free worthless software but I cant remember. YOu can build the same yourself and probably save a couple hundred bucks.

![]() @brp51d the best optimization is to deactivate tons of background programs and give gpu/cpu extracooling to make overclocking. I am buying for years cheap case, cheap mainboard, midclass cpu and only highend gpu. The rest is overclocking.

The average Alienware system before they were aquired by Dell were just typical high-end off the shelf components stuck into an ugly case. Now that dell owns them. . . oh yah, nothing different.
Get a coolermaster case, and stuff it with the most expensive parts you can find, and you'll get a better system for much less. You're just paying people to put it together for you and claiming it's something special. |

I bought an Alienware in late 2003 for Il2 so I will say this.
Alienware doesn't make their own hardware so that being said the Alienware hardware is "off the shelf" stuff. Stuff that you can buy yourself. Perhaps there is the finetuning aspect of Alienware but even then the performance increase is marginal. Sure, I had bragging rights for a little while but looking back it was not worth what I paid for it. What did I pay for exactly? The name? Two extra FPS? Who knows but I do know I won't do it again. I do keep the Alienware Case as a souvenir and conversation piece. I could have saved a lot of money by building something myself that was just as good, or darned close. That;s exactly what I did for my last build in 2007. It's time for yet another sometime soon. Oh, by the way, my Alienware was a P4 3.2EE with a GeForce5950! That was "da shiznit" back then LOL

Actually everyone has the skills to build one they just lack the desire to fit tab b into slot a. And builders dont build stable machines the hardware is either reliable or it isnt, the builder is just an assembler. And if you have 3 hours you can build a complete machine assuming you have a philips screwdriver.

Is this a joke? Alienware does not make components - they just assemble them with an expensive case. My pc was about $4000 in total including shipping and other expenses, the equivalen on alienware at the time was not only worse (its ram was 1333mhz not 1600mhz, and only 8gb among other things) but it cost around $6500+. They tried to charge about $250 for 970->980 upgrade that actually only costs $100...
