I was height testing the Spit MkII the other night, with full CEM and overheat effects, with some other members here;
http://forum.1cpublishing.eu/showthread.php?t=21229 I found that I couldn't get above 22000 ft, the engine was stuttering, and the A/C was shaking about unbelievably. This has become a bit of a project as obviously the Spit had far more altitude capability. No matter what I do in the controls menu, I can't get the two speed supercharger to be selectable between low and high gear, and the carb heat function doesn't seem to work (although I don't actually know whether this is a factor). Can anyone say for sure which controls to enable to get the two speed blower to work? Cheers Dutch Last edited by ATAG_Dutch; 04-15-2011 at 10:16 AM. |

Because the title of that thread is 'Spitfire Unplayable?' and I don't think it is.

I thought the 2 speed supercharger wasnt introduced until the MKIII with the Merlin XX engine?
The two stages means that the air is passed through two compressors before it goes into the engine, the two speed refers to the gears spinning the compressors. It may explain the problem! Cheers! Last edited by Skoshi Tiger; 04-15-2011 at 10:01 AM. |

It must be inaccurate. In that case, any suggestions? Maybe it is the carb icing up, so does anyone know how to enable the carb heat function in controls? At 22000, lean mixture, coarse pitch, throttle through the gate, there was no more climb to be had. 1st post edited, by the way. Last edited by ATAG_Dutch; 04-15-2011 at 10:24 AM. |

Have you tired rich mixture? Lean mixture is for cruising and reduced fuel consuption at lower power settings (and incidentaly if moddeled correctly should give higher engine temperatures) whilst rich is for when you need power.
The Spit has auto rich which means it will automatically adjust for altitude so you set it to either rich or lean and leave it alone. There is a game control for carb heat but I dont think the Spit has it (please do correct me if im wrong, I know the P51 does using the later merlins but don't recall the spit having it). Whilst carb heat will stop your engine icing up it will reduce performance as well as warmer air is less dense and therefore your engine recieves less air. BTW I haven't flown the Spit much in game but this is generally how it should work and how it does work on the accusim A2A version. |

As the Bf109's have the same problem i believe that there is a more general cause.
I.e. automatic mixture control not working for all planes.
