Smile bird strike?

Im going to have to ask this as its pretty unbelievable but quite possible due to the level of detail in this game. Let me explain.
I had just finninshed a quick mission and was goin to try and find a place to land , however i was on comms talking to my squad mates about how stuff and my attention was diverted to looking at the map. When i looked back to forward view i had blood on the front of my canopy! My squaddies joked on how i had been shot by an enemy , but the blood was on the outside as if i had run into something. After a few minutes the engine revs dropped rapidly and i was getting lotsof messages saying this and that had failed and my engine grinded to a halt.
O.k now this was one of either two things. Either oil has been coloured dark red or i`d run into a bird. Im hoping its the bird as this was dipicted in one of Olegs recent screenies , but still i would love some clarification on this.

as i said posiibly oil, but i hadnt taken any damage from enemy planes, and unless oil (red oil)just decides to vacate your engine at will..

It might have been hydraulic oil, in the below picture you have 3 different types of aviation hydraulic oil. My dad used to work as a heavy machines operator before he retired and the machines required hydraulic oil to be re-filled and it was also pink colour:
