Listen to this vid and you know how Messerschmitt should sound from cockpit:
I know it's DB 605, not 601 but you get the idea.
Did they put an helmet with headphone on a stereo mic to record this in a wind tunnel with air rushing at 300 mph so it would be as a real pilot hears the sounds from a closed cockpit ?

Salute !

I am not sure what you mean? It's recorded from "black six", bf 109 G2 when it was airworthy.

He's doing loops and diving when you hear the wind. It's a real in cockpit flight recording of the Messerschmitt 109 G2 before it was grounded.

The sound we hear in COD is "supposed" the replicate what a pilot would hear inside a cockpit...A pilot wears a tight helmet with headphones on his hears...
Very different perception than a mic sitting in a cockpit...
I am a sound engineer since 1984 and have done a lot of "foley" recording for movies in the past...To recreate the sound a pilot would actually hear, you have to take those facts in consideration : The helmet would have the same effect as putting your hands over your ears ...So listen to your exemples with high volume on your speakers and put your hands on your ears...That would give you a rough idea...

Salute !

Of course i know that. I have sit quite many hours in real planes cockpit,
i think i have good idea how it would sound IRL. I doesen't change the fact that
BF sounds in COD are way different than real one. And i wont even start about outside sounds wich are simply bad...

So why this comment ? It isn't a fair comparaison !!!!

^I agreed. Game interior sounds are more like from Cessna than +1000hp V-12.
Listen to this vid and you know how Messerschmitt should sound from cockpit:

IF you sat inside a real BF with similar engine with 1940 helmet and headphones on your head, then , you are probably in a good position to make a comment, and I'll will give you all the credits...
And of course, like for the rest of the whole game, you make conclusions about everything based on few videos with who knows "what kindof hardware setup" and settings they used...

Salute !

The issue isn't about muffling in my educated opinion. The issue is that the sounds are plain wrong, misplaced and have little footage in reality. The only thing I find somewhat realistic from the in cockpit sounds showed here are the V12 exhaust "hummm" cycles looping in the background. The sounds from the in game vid may be "supposed" to replicate reality but there's no chance in hell they sound realistic in combination with eachother. Apart from some of the frequencies that are plain missing.

A leather "helmet" with a couple of bakelite/metal cups on it, using WW2 tech, does not take away frequencies and sounds all together or have the same effect as putting your hands over your ears. Not even my modern Peltors does that.
