No, you misunderstood the title of the thread.

I am wanting to activate as per:
https://support.steampowered.com/kb_...5414-TFBN-1352

You are refering to simply placing Steam in "offline" mode which is something completely different.

How does the Steam online matchmaking and Steam cloud/Steamworks features work if the game is not linked to a Steam account?

What a mess on Ubisofts behalf for not clarifying the information 100%.

Does only the version purchased from the Steam store have Steam cloud support for example?
From what we've been told i assume that Steam's features will not be completely integrated with the boxed editions.

It shouldn't be a problem, since people who like Steam's features will buy it from Steam anyway. Now why would i buy a boxed edition in the first place if i liked Steam so much?

I believe this is the way it works if it is purchased both via STEAM or via disc. This info was posted by someone who is familiar with how it works.

So the title of this thread is not accurate.
Actually, not so much. According to current info, Steam is not required at all if you buy a boxed edition. For boxed editions only, you can either optionally install steam to use as a multiplayer lobby, or you can use hyperlobby and bypass steam altogether.

If you buy from Steam then yes, it's required to use it and it works more or less the way you described. I don't know what happens with other digital download retailers.

I'm kind of divided; on the one hand, I'm given to appreciating intellectual endeavour and the consideration of points of facts; on the other, shouting is great if you lack the mental abilities to make a good argument. Just because your intelligence is commensurate with a leaky drainpipe doesn't mean you shouldn't be allowed to shout at everyone.

So thanks, full caps warriors: you help me understand you and, more importantly, you help me instantly identify the window-lickers. It's like avoiding chavs: you can see them coming on account of their XXXX clothes. With forum chavs, you have to actually read a sentence or two to frame them accurately as well.
WOW WHAT AN ASS WIPE!!! sorry about the all caps.
